Presentation of the book 'Terre di bonifica. La Piana di Sibari: un paesaggio in continuo divenire' ('The Plain of Sybaris: A Landscape in Continuous Evolution')
Date:
2 December 2024

On 10 December, Cosenza will host the presentation of the book 'Terre di bonifica. La Piana di Sibari: un paesaggio in continuo divenire', the fruit of the Land Reclamation research project whose main objective was to present the historical, technical, environmental and cultural heritage of the land reclamation landscape and the results obtained in a popularised form. Among the authors of this volume are some of the researchers from the Institute for Mediterranean Agricultural and Forestry Systems (CNR-Isafom), in particular: Ilaria Guagliardi, Angela Magariello, Rosalucia Mazzei, Alessandra Patitucci, Gaetano Pellicone and Giuseppe Tagarelli.
There is widespread national and international scientific interest in studies that focus attention on the transformations of reclaimed land landscapes and the interventions that have influenced the social, economic and cultural processes of anthropisation of this territory. These contributions are part of landscape ecology studies, a discipline capable, on the one hand, of decoding material and immaterial signs, analysing the processes of change of the territory through a synchronic and diachronic perspective aimed at breaking down anthropic and natural frameworks and revealing the complexity and intrinsic meaning of places, and, on the other hand, of participating dynamically in the planning choices of national and local governments.
This work has made it possible to reconstruct and identify all those territorial elements distinguished by identity values capable of reactivating the complex of endogenous resources to be invested in processes of cultural, environmental and landscape planning for a lasting valorisation of the reclaimed lands beyond their value linked to the agricultural use of the territory.
