Icos Spectometry Laboratory (L3.01 - L3.02)
Icos Spectometry Laboratory (L3.01 - L3.02)
Responsible: Antonio Manco
Preposto: Andrea Esposito
The CNR ISAFOM spectrometry laboratory meets the need to understand the functionality of terrestrial ecosystems at local, district and regional scales. It has established experience in the preparation and use of measurement equipment for biometeorology applications aimed at studies of crops, forests and anthropogenic systems.
The activity is carried out in a main laboratory - and an adjacent Electronics Workshop (L3.02 - Manager and Person Responsible: Andrea Esposito) for electronics and IOT applications. The experimental devices are assembled and tested in the laboratory, then fine-tuned and deployed in the open field.
Experimental investigations mainly concern the detection of environmental concentrations of gaseous compounds and the subsequent determination of mass and energy exchange from vegetated surfaces.
The species measured are greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O), reactive (NH3, NOx, O3), pollutants (COS, CO, dust) and volatile organic compounds (VOC).
Measurement techniques can be traced back to infrared, laser and mass spectrometry - closed cell and open path.
State-of-the-art automatic chamber systems are used for ground exchanges.
The calculation of emission or absorption fluxes is based on micrometeorological approaches - mainly turbulent correlation - and inverse dispersion models.
