Forest Modelling Laboratory

Head: Dr. Alessio Collalti, Perugia (PG) office: alessio.collalti @ cnr.it

The Forest Modelling Laboratory is a research laboratory of the Institute for Mediterranean Agricultural and Forestry Systems of the National Research Council (ISAFOM-CNR) that deals specifically with:

  • Studying and analysing the quantitative and qualitative representation of the interactions underlying the productivity, resistance and resilience to disturbance of forest ecosystems and their responses to ecological and climatic forcing;
  • Develop, parameterise, validate and use empirical and/or process-based simulation models both to deepen understanding of the processes underlying the functioning of forest ecosystems and to assess their response to the current climate and also the impacts of future climate change scenarios.

In addition, the Forest Modelling Laboratory studies the response of forests to current and alternative/adaptive management scenarios through modelling approaches according to defined protocols.

Due to its characteristics, the Forest Modelling Laboratory is open to modelling collaborations with other CNR Institutes, other Research Institutes and Universities, both Italian and foreign.

The Laboratory of Forest Modelling is formally located at the Institute for Mediterranean Agricultural and Forestry Systems at the Perugia branch and is directed by Dr. Alessio Collalti.
