Soil Ecology Laboratory

Soil Ecology Workshop“ (L0.01)

Responsible and Responsible: Luca Vitale

The following activities are mainly carried out there: determination of soil emissions of reactive and climate-altering gases; determinations of microbial biomass and biological activity of soils in the processes of respiration, nitrification, denitrification and biogenic gas production.

The laboratory is equipped with the following equipment:

  • Gas chromatograph model SRI 8610C
  • FTIR GASMET model DX4015
  • PICARRO model G2508
  • PTR-TOF 1000
  • Licor 6400 for measuring soil respiration;
  • Automatic chamber system for ground measurements of climate-altering reactive gases

The Soil Ecology Laboratory also actively supports the activities of the following projects:

TeleNitro - New low cost crop strategies based on biodiversity and remote sensing to reduce the application of nitrogen fertilisers in the Mediterranean area
https://mel.cgiar.org/projects/1847

OMICRON - Development of new microbial consortia for maize adaptation/resilience to climate change and mitigation of N2O.
