Alessio Collalti is a Senior Scientist at the Institute for Agricultural and Forestry Systems in the Mediterranean of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ISAFOM). Head of the Research Unit of CNR-ISAFOM in Perugia (https://isafom.cnr.it/en/perugia/; 16 personnel). He is the lead of the Forest Modelling Laboratory (https://www.forest-modelling-lab.com; 6 personnel), and Principal Investigator (PI) of the Bonis experimental site in Calabria region (Italy). He holds a Master Science Degree in Natural Sciences obtained at 'Sapienza' University of Rome and a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology at University of Tuscia, Viterbo. His interests concern forest ecology, carbon and nitrogen cycle, forest and vegetation modelling, particularly with regard to vegetation numerical modelling and forests responses under natural and anthropogenic stress, including climate change. He has been working at the University of Tuscia and at the Foundation Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC). At CMCC, he was from 2011 to 2018 a Researcher and the Research Unit leader "Modelling the impacts on terrestrial ecosystems and their services" developing the 3D-CMCC-FEM (Three Dimensional - Coupled Model Carbon Cycle - Forest Ecosystem Module). He is currently on the editorial board and a subject editor in different journals (e.g. Journal of Ecology, IF: 5.4; and Current Climate Change Reports, IF: 9.4) with ~70 editor records. He is member of the Carbon Cycle working group at CNR and of the Expert Round-Table of Forest Modelling. He is member of the European Geoscience Union (EGU), American Geophysical Union (AGU), British Ecological Society (BES), and of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and different European infrastructures (e.g. ICOS, LifeWatch, eLTER). He is a Communication Officer Division 8 "Forest Environment" and a Deputy Coordinator WP 8.04.04 "Modelling and Risk Assessment" at IUFRO. In his career he has published as lead author, co-author and senior author several book chapters and more than seventy scientific papers in international (peer-reviewed) journals including Science, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Nature Plants, Nature Ecology and Evolution, Earth System Science Data, Global Change Biology and Current Climate Change Reports (H-index 32, n. citations >4000; source: Google Scholar; H-index 27 for Scopus and WoS) also cited in Nature and Science journals. He has been awarded in 2019 with the Excellence Price for Science and Research by the Department of Biology, Agriculture and Food Sciences at CNR (CNR-DiSBA, Rome) and in 2020 with two Honourable Mentions. He is the Italian PI at the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project (ISIMIP) Forestry Sector, and the CNR-PI at the ForestNavigator and OptFor-EU (WP and TG leader) Horizon Europe projects, including other National (e.g. PRIN) and International (e.g. FP7 and H2020, HE) projects. He has been the Management committee for Italy at the Cost Action PROFOUND (FP1304) and for PROCLIAS (CA19139). In 2020, he received the National qualification for Associated Professor in Botany and in 2023 and 2024 as Associate and Full Professor in Arboriculture and Forest Systems, respectively. He has been the tutor and evaluator of several Ph.D. and Master Degree students in Italy and Europe.
