Profile

With expertise in hydro-pedology, viticulture and precision agriculture, Antonello Bonfante conducts research activities focused on the analysis and understanding of the Soil-Plant-Atmosphere (SPA) system. He develops and applies simulation models of the SPA system for soil assessment, sustainable management of water resources and the study of climate change effects in agriculture. He coordinates several projects of national and international relevance on soil health and sustainable agriculture, and is founder of the Support Precision Agriculture- SPA Lab at the ISAFOM Institute -CNR (2019). With a Scopus H-index of 24 (more than 2000 citations), he has published more than 56 scientific articles in international journals including Advances in Agronomy.

Work experience:
Since November 2025 he has been acting Director of the Institute for Mediterranean Agricultural and Forestry Systems - ISAFoM. Since 2023 he has been a Research Manager at CNR-ISAFOM. From 2011 to 2023 he was a researcher and first researcher at CNR-ISAFOM. From 2013 to 2018: Adjunct Professor in Pedology at the University of Salerno (Department of Chemistry and Biology.
He obtained his PhD (February 2006) in “Valorizzazione e gestione delle Risorse Agro-Forestali” (Applied Pedology) and his degree (March 2002) in Agricultural Science and Technology (110/110 cum laude) from the University of Naples Federico II.
