Master degree in Chemistry with 110/110 at the University of Messina;
PhD in "Geological, Biological and Environmental Sciences" at the University of Catania;
Licensed to practice as Chemist and member of the Chemists Order of Messina.

Main research interests

Chemical characterization of plants typical of the Mediterranean environment for the purpose of creating clones with high health value and conservation of germplasm;
Development of conservation techniques, including the use of pectin edible films, for the production of ready to eat food for improving shelf-life;
Chemical characterization of citrus juices and creation of blends of bioactive molecules for immunostimulatory formulations;
Research of molecules of nutraceutical interest in plants typical of the Mediterranean environment;
Characterization of biomasses for the "third generation biorefinery" and of by-products used also for animal feeding;
“Phytoremediation” of soils contaminated by heavy metals and metalloids;
Abiotic stress study to increase the synthesis of substances with antioxidant action;
Analysis of Sicilian honeys produced by Apis mellifera sicula and ligustica and evaluation of the influence of botanical origin and bee genotype on the main quality parameters of honey.

Laboratory activities

Laboratory instruments used: UV/vis spectrophotometer, potentiometric Stripping, GC / FID-ECD-FPD, GC/MS, HPLC-UV/vis, LC/MS, IC, HPAE/PAD, FAA/GFAA, ICP/MS, FT-IR.
Extraction techniques used: Soxhlet, Randall, ASE, Microwave, Ultrasound.
Main samples analyzed: water (potable, superficial, underground, wastewater, industrial), food, soil, waste, plant material, drugs.
Experience in wastes classification (CER codes) and waste management.
Main chemical analyses: carbohydrates, inorganic cations and anions, heavy metals, phenolic compounds, antioxidant activity, pesticides, PAHs, PCBs, VOCs, drugs.

Research support activities

She has collaborated in the activities of 11 research projects and 3 agreements with companies and Universities.
She assisted in the preparation, presentation and management of national and international research projects.
She has carried out tutoring and academic performance as co-supervisor of degree theses in collaboration with the University of Catania.
She has been a member of the scientific and organization committee of several conferences.
