The TELENITRO project, funded by the PRIMA Programme, held a joint consortium meeting in Portici (Italy) from 10 to 12 December 2025, hosted by the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) at its Portici research centre.
The main scientific session took place on 11 December, with contributions from partners across the Mediterranean region. The meeting opened with a welcome from the Directors of the hosting CNR Institutes, followed by scientific presentations addressing nitrogen management, nature-based inputs, and sustainable agronomic practices. Key presentations included:
– Patrizia Spigno (ARCA Farm, Italy) on the conservation and enhancement of plant agrobiodiversity in Campania.
– Dr Francisco García Sánchez (CEBAS-CSIC, Spain) on the use of plants and botanical extracts to reduce nitrification rates in agricultural soils.
– Dra. Souad El Hajjaji (Mohamed V University, Morocco) presenting pilot evaluations of NBI plants and extracts in pepper production.
– Dra. Iman Ayadi, Dra Fatma Wassar and Dra Ines Toumi (ISSTEG, Tunisia) reporting agronomic results in melon under different nitrogen fertilization strategies and intercropping systems.
– Dr. Anna Tedeschi (CNR, Italy) presenting preliminary agronomic results from CNR pepper experiments.
– Erika Fernández (CEBAS-CSIC, Spain) presenting results from broccoli and watermelon trials under reduced nitrogen inputs.
– Prof. José Manuel Brotons (Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, Spain) on cost analysis methodologies.
– Pedro Hernández and David Jorquera (Think Tank Technology, Spain) on the development of the TELENITRO Decision Support System (DSS).
On 12 December, participants visited the ARCA experimental fields in Acerra, where ongoing trials related to sustainable fertilization and crop management were presented. The visit was followed by a tour of a local transformation farm in Pomigliano d’Arco, allowing partners to link research results with real production and value-chain conditions.
